I blogged in great detail about our Disney trip (of course I did) so feel free to check that out if you're interested in my pic spam and Mouse tips! We paid for the trip (plus dining plan) and bought souveniers beforehand (except for some Disney only potato head accessories) and the only thing we used money for at the parks were gratuities! Good, affordable times.

New blog post! Dedicated to one of my favorite things ever: Boobs, their health and support and something about egg cups.

The Things:

  • Thank you to everyone who checked out my new blog and commented or liked it on Facebook. I was overwhelmed by the response to my dorkdom. Hearts!

  • We are leaving for Walt Disney World in 2 days! It's like the Mother Ship is calling me home!

  • Jonah picked out a hot pink Jeep Cherokee stroller to traverse the parks and is taking his plush Daisy Duck as his Plus One. Between tooling around in a hot pink ride with a duckette wearing lavender and pearls and being super excited about Cinderella's castle, I think my almost 4 year old boy is giving a big FU to traditional gender roles. Can I get a what-what? Of course, his mother will be standing alongside with precisely placed highlights, turquoise glitter polish (looks like town to me) and inches of tanned legs between short-shorts and platforms, looking like a fresh tube of lip gloss on Christmas morn, but we're both keeping it real.

  • I have been KNOCKED OUT by "Game of Thrones" and "Mad Men" this season, but woefully underwhelmed by HIMYM. I don't watch a lot of comedies (Community, 30 Rock, HIMYM & Big Bang) but when I'm finding Ted my favorite character, I think something's gone wonky.

  • My husband finished another semester of his doctoral program with a 4.0 for the semester -- his Admin in Higher Ed class was kicking his butt, super tough prof -- and now he only has 4 semesters to go and of course the dissertation. I'm incredibly proud of him as he balances his assoc dean / professor duties in a single income family and still has time to be an involved father and read everything I write and listen to what I overheard at the gym every day.

  • WHY did none of you tell me about "Revenge"??? I watched all aired 20 eps over 2 days. OMG the tawdry fabulous! I also caught up on "Girls" on HBO, and I have thoughts on it, but it needs its own post when I'm not packing and cleaning at the same time.

  • "The Avengers," in case you haven't heard, kicks massive ass. I don't know what Joss Whedon's thing is with schwarma ("I mean, what's that all about? It's a big meat hive!") but I like it. Oh, and if you've seen The Avengers, read this: Avengers Dissemble by [info]spuffyduds

  • Hi! Hi! I'm tripping protein bars and lots of Omega 3!

I have started a new Wordpress blog I have whimsically titled "Beyond Beans 'n' Tators" where I will share recipes and my healthy eating journey, as well as post the random observations that blurt onto my keyboard (see above re: blog). Each post will have a low-fat or healthy recipe I have vetted and things I've found useful in getting healthy, active and losing weight.

If you'd be willing to check it out and maybe leave a comment on at least the inaugural post, especially if I have poured piles of squeeing feedback on your fic and kitten posts for years (haha, shameless emotional manipulation) I would greatly appreciate. However, if you hate food and awesome, I get that, too.

My Smash recap is up at Hey Don't Judge Me: The Coup

Every episode should have Derek rattling Tom around until Tom's bangs go all Flock of Seagulls, don't you think?

Having exhausted (I think) a lot of the well-written HP fic I could find on AO3 (that was a lot of reading) I consulted my saved fic links and ended up re-reading an SPN RPS AU that is very AU (the only kind of RPS I'm into) and clicking subsequent links lead to me to new fic and I've been reading a lot of new to me J2 AUs this afternoon. One such fic ended in a note from the writer (a Brit) asking for American (particularly Texan) readers to Ameri-pick for regional or linguist errors. The main thing that tends to throw me out of J2 fic is "Texan" food that is neither Texan nor remotely palatable in combination (enchiladas served with chicken fried steak has got to be the winner in that category.)

So I left a comment about a few dialogue choices (meant vs supposed; "Let's go back to mine" "Don't mess me around, yeah?" etc) that didn't sound particular Texan or US southwestern and then commented that having Jared long for his mother's chili served with Madeira cake was a little odd. We tend to have chili with cornbread or Fritos around these parts, and the likelihood of a Texan having Madeira cake as a fave would probably suggest an English mother or grandmother.

The author commented back very cordially, but commented that she was under the impression that cornbread was not something people ate anymore and she was leery of its racist connotations. Um. What?

And now this post will go all over the place )

    The Workshop

You know, I feel bad for absolutely everyone in this ep. Except me. I got to see Bernadette Peters.

So I have been reading the Mark Watches recaps of Buffy and Angel and for most part it's the same super fun that is watching the show anew with a new person. I typically have to skip the comments, though, because of the random Xander hate (it's even worse than the vintage Xander hate I'm immune to) and because A LOT of these new viewers seem SUPER young and are hyper sensitive/triggered by anyone saying anything sexual to anyone ever.

However, after today's recap of "The Initiative," a new viewer commented on the fact that you can briefly see Spike's reflection in the glass in the Initiative holding cells. They went on to say, "I realized that was a technical error, because at first I thought he was supposed to be a ghost, and he's already undead, so it would just be silly if he were a ghost."

    Ahahahahahahhaha. Indeed.

So now I'm sitting here with a goofy grin on my lips, shipping Spike/Willow, calling Jonah "my little mentholated pack of smokes" and thinking of the baby Buffies, "You think you know ... what's to come ... what you are. You haven't even begun."

My Smash recap is up at Hey Don't Judge Me. I still don't know what I think of this show...loved the pilot, but I've been up and down over it since. It's winning its time slot, so perhaps it's my adherence to niche and cult programming that's the issue, haha! Feel free to tell me what you think or just go over and comment random stuff about musicals. I'm cool with that.
